Zayed International Airport (AUH) is designed for straightforward onward travel, but the best transfer depends on more than price. A solo visitor with no immediate appointment can use an official taxi. A speaker arriving before a conference, an executive with a board meeting or a delegation on several flights may need a pre-booked operation.

Official airport taxis

Official taxis are available 24/7, metered and able to travel throughout Abu Dhabi. The airport states that cash and card are accepted at the destination. Wheelchair-accessible and larger vehicles are available.

Use the signed official rank. Do not follow an unsolicited transport offer inside the terminal.

Choose a taxi when:

you are travelling alone or as a pair;
your hotel details are confirmed;
no representative must meet you;
your arrival time is not tied to a high-risk appointment.

Ride-hailing at AUH

The airport currently facilitates Careem, Uber and Yango through designated pickup zones. Book through the official app, follow its meeting instructions and check the licence plate before entering.

Ride-hailing is useful for an app-based receipt and vehicle-category choice. It is not automatically faster than the taxi rank; pickup-zone walking and driver arrival need to be included.

Public buses: the value option

Bus stops are outside Arrivals. The airport lists A-series services operating 24/7 to areas including Al Zahiyah, Khalifa Street, Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Al Shahama. The typical one-way fare is around AED 4.

You need a Hafilat card, available from ticket machines near the stops; cash is not accepted onboard. Check the correct route and current timetable before boarding.

Best for: travellers with light luggage, flexible check-in and accommodation near a direct route.

Less suitable for: a first-time visitor landing before a meeting, a group, heavy exhibition material or a traveller whose hotel requires another transfer.

Private transfer or chauffeur

A pre-booked transfer buys certainty: the provider has the flight, passenger name, mobile contact, destination and vehicle requirement before touchdown. A chauffeur booking can extend beyond the airport into meetings, hotel check-in and dinner.

This is usually justified for:

C-suite and investor travel;
speakers with a same-day commitment;
government or diplomatic delegations;
groups requiring a van or luggage vehicle;
travellers needing child seats or accessible arrangements;
guests unfamiliar with the city who require hosted support.

Ask whether the quote includes waiting time, parking, meet-and-greet, flight monitoring, additional stops, tolls and late-arrival terms.

What about Etihad Chauffeur?

Eligible Etihad guests may have access to an airline chauffeur service depending on fare and booking conditions. Do not assume inclusion from cabin name alone; check the booking directly. The airport also lists independent limousine operators for fixed-rate premium transfers.

Rental car

Onsite partners operate from the airport's car-rental centre. A rental may suit a longer stay with several emirates or remote sites. For a short city conference, taxis can be simpler once parking, navigation, deposits and driving eligibility are considered.

The airport advises travellers to carry an original driving licence, passport or Emirates ID, credit card and—where required—an International Driving Permit. Confirm eligibility before paying.

Choosing by destination

AUH to ADNEC

ADNEC describes the airport journey as approximately 15 minutes under normal conditions. Event traffic, hall access and hotel location can increase it. A taxi works for an independent delegate; a pre-booked transfer is stronger for a speaker, exhibitor team or VIP.

AUH to Yas Island

Yas is relatively close to the airport. Taxi or ride-hailing is usually straightforward, while a hotel transfer may be included in a package.

AUH to the Corniche or city centre

Use taxi, ride-hailing or a direct A-series bus if time is flexible. A reserved vehicle helps when the city hotel is the first stop in a working itinerary.

AUH to Saadiyat or Al Maryah Island

Door-to-door road transport is the practical choice. A chauffeur can remain useful if a cultural visit, office meeting and dinner follow check-in.

AUH to Dubai

This is an inter-emirate transfer. Book a suitable vehicle, disclose luggage and confirm the exact Dubai address. Allow for traffic and avoid placing a non-refundable attraction immediately after landing.

Arrival instructions for groups and delegations

Create one movement sheet containing:

passenger names and mobile numbers;
